Art Work of Piedmont Section of North Carolina was published by the Gravure Illustration Company of Chicago in 1924.  The book was produced in nine paper-bound parts, enclosed in a cloth-bound portfolio.  Each part consists of several leaves of photogravure plates, one to four to a page.  In producing this online version, the staff of Special Collections, UNC Charlotte hoped to convey something of the ambience of the original text along with the content.  The images include homes, churches, civic buildings, street scenes and parks from the major  cities of the Piedmont:  Charlotte, High Point, Winston-Salem, and Greensboro.  The index is an addition to the original text and was created by Special Collections staff.

The images were scanned on a Microtek ScanMaker 4 flatbed scanner using Adobe Photoshop 4.0 LE. The master images were created in TIFF format at 600 dpi. The viewing images are JPEG file format, at 72 dpi. All images are presented without touch up, cropping or other alteration. Each image in the book is accompanied by a caption which is reproduced in this exhibit.  Capitalization and spelling reflect that of the original text.
